Client Spotlight on Edward –How to Lose Weight as a Middle-Aged Dad

Edward reached out to me in January of this year for a nutrition consultation.  He wanted to lose weight but also gain muscle and reverse some concerning medical issues.  He found himself at 40 with pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and sleep apnea.  With a young daughter, he wanted to not just be around for her but to be an set a good example for her regarding health and fitness.

Edward already had some good habits in place that he had recently implemented such as increasing his protein and cutting back on his eating window.  He was trying to buy healthier brands of food but needed little tweaking to really hone in on optimal macronutrients and quality in his food choices.

Edward hired me to coach him, following his daily food logs on Cronometer App.  This allowed us to see not just macronutrients but micronutrients, sleep, heart rate variability, resting heart rate and exercise.  He began fueling properly for his workouts beforehand with some Perfect Aminos and afterwards with plenty of protein.  By following his macronutrient goals, increasing his fasting window and varying his weight workout routine, he had amazing results.

He started out in January at 207 and just recently went below his goal weight and hit 164.  His body fat is a lean 17% and his HRV is the highest I’ve ever seen.

When I asked Edward why he thinks he was successful he told me:

“I more or less knew the ins and outs of what I needed to do, but having a professional fill in the gaps and then guide me day by day to make good choices really made all the difference in the world.  Knowing what you should generally do and executing are different things.  Mary has changed my life for the better.“

For Edward, daily coaching and accountability made all the difference in his success.  He also did some really amazing intermittent fasting using the later hours of the day to start the fast and breaking it early morning to properly fuel for his workouts.  This strategy is tough for most people but he continued to do it most days because he felt so good and was making such great gains in his body composition.

Moving forward, Edward fell in love with the process so much so that he is now pursuing a career in nutrition and exercise to help other people achieve their goals.  I’m so thrilled to spotlight him as a client who truly embraced that “food is medicine” and macronutrients, quality of food and movement of the body all play an important role in not just weight loss but overall health and longevity.  I look forward to watching him succeed in his new career and know he will be an inspiration to many.  Congratulations Edward and can’t wait to watch your career flourish.
